About the Vice President of Product position

Key Relationshps: The role is based in the Draper, Utah office (near Salt Lake City). Reports to the President. Member of the Executive Team.

We are looking for a driven Vice President of Product, who can do the following:

  • Create a product vision that sets the course to take Nav to profitability.
  • Create alignment around the company with the product roadmap.
  • Have a strong ability to “Get Work Done” in terms of connecting financial targets and delivering on those financial targets.
  • Maintain focus - stopping work that is detracting from the vision.
  • Create a strong and scalable team - lead a team of Product Leaders and Product Managers to define, plan, and execute the prioritized product definition, differentiating Nav's experience in the marketplace.

It is mission critical for Nav at this time to have someone own Product at Nav and partner with engineering to lead product initiatives and people.

The person will be on the executive team and their next step in the company would be to much senior levels as they perform and earn everyone’s trust and followership. Your duties will include leading up and down the chain of command to research/seize market opportunities and plans to execute on Nav’s road map.

The successful candidate will be able to establish a process for repeatedly shipping value added products and services that impact revenue, own product successes and failures and works to solve each in the right amount of time. This person can listen and compromise between competing teams, ideas, or priorities up and down the organization, own product revenue, forecast and create metrics around product. They will need to be good at communicating a vision and growing people within the company. In other words - Walk the talk, gain followership and be a culture enhancer for Nav.

The Vice President of Product will report directly to the President of Nav and will work very closely with the VP of Engineering and Nav’s executive team to create, produce, and execute Nav’s products.

This executive will be responsible for the following:

  • Listen and learn from current successes and failures with product but own all of the outcomes.
  • Sets expectations across the company for what product is, what it can do, and how it works. Focuses on level setting the exec teams expectations.
  • Facilitate current product roadmap and have 2019 planned out.
  • Assessment of product team - create a plan on how to grow the team.
  • Develop tight relationship with the engineering leadership and executive team.
  • Drive tight alignment between product, sales, marketing, and engineering.
  • Understanding of Nav industry, product and moving parts within the Financial Tech industry. Understanding how personal credit is used w/in product.
  • Work with Data Analytics to proclaim and promote high value data segments.
  • Own the complete product pipeline from product definition to commercialization.
  • Stay immersed in market trends and collaborate with stakeholders to identify insights optimizing product development, with the goal of enabling our customers to more efficiently use our platform.

The successful candidate will have the following experience and attributes:

  • Partnering with engineering and across company - identifying a vision and sticking to it.
  • Experience using data to make decisions to build product.
  • Experience with business partnerships and how to get the most out of business development partnerships with product.
  • Creating and sharing a vision - with dates and deadlines and having ownership of the outcome.
  • Growing and scaling a company at accelerated growth rates and creating good outcomes for the people involved with the work.
  • Closing gaps between product and marketing and instilling confidence with executives for the direction of product.
  • Aligning people around a common mission and vision to feel like one team and become more productive.
  • Proven performance in a fast-paced startup environment and experience in the Financial Services industry a plus


BS or BA in Computer Science, Engineering or other related area. Masters degree in Business or related preferred.
